About Us

Sheldon and Raye Isenberg are Licensed and Board Certified in Clinical Social Work with advanced training in individual, couples, and family counseling. We co-founded Isenberg & Associates, sold it in 2008, and have now co-founded Isenberg Counseling, LLC. Among the most experienced counselors in Naperville, we have counseled thousands of individuals and couples. Married over 45 years, and having raised a family, we know what works in living a respectful and loving life together.

AAMFTSheldon (Shelly) Isenberg has been counseling others in private practice since 1969, and received his Master’s in Social Work from the University of Chicago in 1967. He is a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, a member of Marriage Friendly Therapists, and listed in Good Therapy, Psychology Today and Linden Oaks at Edward. Shelly is a seasoned therapist who listens carefully, but also engages with his clients to help them with their goals.

Shelly’s practice involves working with issues of depression, anger, anxiety and those disruptions of life such as divorce, infidelity, medical issues, and job loss. Mid-life transitional issues of aging, career and marital commitment bring people to consult with him. He has a special interest in helping men deal with being the men they want to be and relating successfully to the women they love. He also works very well with the many women having problems with the men in their lives. His reputation for effective marital counseling has led to his working with young couples having pre-marital, pre-family and early marital issues and helping them on with the lives they want for themselves.

Sensitive to individual variations, Shelly helps individuals and couples connect in their relationships without overlooking the meaningful differences they may have. He is very sensitive to variations in lifestyle and values, inter-faith and inter-cultural differences that often arise in our multi-cultural society. For Shelly, the experience of attraction and becoming a healthier, more vibrant couple is spiritual in its’ essence.

A Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce member for over 25 years, Shelly enjoys the business of developing and maintaining a thriving practice and enjoys working with the business issues many of his clients deal with every day. He provides consultation on business relationship issues which cause personal stress for his clients and helps them deal with those personal issues that are getting in the way of business success. Family business relationship issues are a specialty.

Shelly’s interest and his experience in successful practice development and maintenance over the years gives him a special background to consult with other counseling professionals in attaining practice satisfaction and success.
